Ooo 77 days to go. Why I ever thought I could run 10k I don't know! However, the object is to complete the Great Manchester 'Run', in over 90 minutes (easy!), and raise as much as possible.
I've been to the gym again this morning and once again my body didn't want to be there. In 30 minutes I had done 3.72kms - so better than Friday - but more was walking, albeit very fast. I did 35 minutes in total and completed 4.17kms. I don't actually need to start going faster. I just need to do more for longer, which is difficult when trying to fit in a more than full time job. I'm aiming to complete in as close to 90 minutes as I can, and anything under 100 I'll be happy with. Another 77 days and it will all be over.
We went to Cafe Turin when I got back, and had a relaxing brunch! I needed feeding, but it is a bit extravagent for a Sunday lunchtime. We had a walk along the Kirklees Trail to see what is going on - we've noticed diggers there this week. It looks like the outdoor activity area (basketballs and football I think) is being started. Lots of trees have been cut down, so I might have to move house if I end up with a view of a sports area rather than just trees and fields (yippee).
Paul has hoovered my car, which was full of cat hairs after I collected Pudding the Cat from mums yesterday and she tried to escape from her cardboard box all the way home.
End of week 8 (estimated due to cloud affecting GPS on Wednesday!):
Running/walking: 10kms ish, 84 minutes
I'll try to up it a bit this week, although I may have to visit the gym in peak time and pay as I'm actually out doing some inspection work this week. Watch this space

Rain rain go away
It was too wet to run outside today, so I went to the gym. I was incredibly impressed with my 3.6kms in 30 minutes (that's 7.2km per hour you know, therefore 10.8 in 90 minutes!). It was the first proper try I've had since before my holidays, and I did half run, half walk. The elation lasted until I checked my times for before the holiday - 3.59kms in 30 minutes grrrr. Still, not too bad after a break, and that 0.01km extra shouldn't be frowned upon. I think Paul is working tomorrow so I won't be able to go then (as I'll have Harrison, not because I'm lazy), but I'll be there for my Sunday morning do as usual. As H goes to FitKids at 10am it makes sure that I also have an hour. The sponsorship is up to £225, and I'm touting for more followers (so pass it on). I don't mind no-one reading it but if they are listed as a follower I'll feel good. Appearances are everything.
I had a day off gym stuff yesterday. When I woke up I thought my shoulders had been broken, they ached so much after the massage. They have definately been a bit better though and by Easter I should have no tension at all, if that is possible living in our house. I did consider going to the gym at lunchtime. I wasn't very motivated and jumped at the chance of meeting Debbie for lunch to get over her traumatic morning. We had great fun watching all the infidelities going on in Pizza Express in Prestwich. Not much gets past us!

Out of Practice
I haven't run at all for a week!
We had a fabulous time on holiday. The sun shone every day - we never needed a jumper during the day and there were people round the pool in bikinis each day too. We walked miles and miles so I didn't feel too bad about not running!
We had all day Sunday in Cyprus, and the hotel manager let us keep our apartment for the whole day so it was nice and stress-free. We were due to land at 00:15 on Monday morning, but due to the snow at Manchester airport on Sunday morning everything got delayed and we didn't get home until just gone 3am. Needless to say I didn't make my 10am meeting in Oldham, and we woke Harrison up just after 11am so he could get to school for lunchtime. Paul had the day off, and did a bit of a house-move (not for him, for Debbie!) in the afternoon. Even though I was completely done in, I decided I'd still go and have dinner, plus champagne with hibiscus flowers (OK, and red wine, and vodka with apple juice, and cafe schnapps) with Debbie and Andrew at night. I was home at 1am and slept well!
This morning I got motivated and went for a run/walk along the Kirklees Trail. I had to take care as it was still a bit icy. I had RunKeeper on my iPhone but it told me the GPS was poor (probably all the cloud). I carried on regardless and went further than on my first attempt - all the way to The Bulls Head at the end of the trail and back again. I was most impressed when I checked the results. I had done 3.72kms in 19:01 minutes, giving me an average 5:07 mins per km. I knew I'd gone further than my previous 1.46kms, but hadn't realised how much further. I realised that this 10km would be a piece of cake, in fact I could probably go round twice.
RunKeeper really is great. The GPS tracks your route so it links with the computer and shows you where you have been on the map. You can't imagine how disappointed I was when I saw the route. The GPS was very confused and thought I'd set off from nearly Woolfold! I don't know how it got that idea. I hope it is a bit clearer tomorrow so I can see how far it is really.
Before my holiday I was really stressed and busy but didn't have time to do anything about it. I'm a bit better now but thought I'd better sort myself out properly, and went for a deep tissue massage on my back, neck and shoulders. It was torture. I was nearly screaming at times! I couldn't just feel the tension being moved around, I could hear it too. It was such a strange feeling and I felt like I was being permanently damaged. I got off the bed much easier than I got on though, and I've got a course of treatments (for half price!) so I will go again and get properly sorted out instead of it getting gradually worse again.
Paul's just got home so I'd better go and be a good wife.

Sunshine
After the false start we have had a marvelous time. Fabulous weather, out every day, total relaxation and doing whatever took our fancy. I have run on the treadmill but it is very old, doesn't count right, and is on a constant slope - uowards too. I then went around the block - a big block though - twice. Then I got fed up. I've walked miles and miles, and stuff running. I'll start again Monday. I thought I was being clever booking a holiday so we were away every minute of half term. Now the prospect of Monday morning is quite scary. We're off out into the blazing sun now. It is just so nice.
Sat 13/Sun 14 February
Well it is now Saturday 20th Feb, and I have at last woken up without a stiff neck and shoulders. I am finally destressed. (Don't read too much into that - I've had the best week but it has taken a few days to get rid of all the old stuff!)
We got to the airport in plenty of time on Saturday, and as soon as we were through security that was it - no turning back so we could relax. The flight was delayed by an hour (we still didn't care, and we still didn't get aggitated when we found out that the delay was due to lack of cabin crew. I'd bought Esayboarding plus (yes, I went to a great place loads cheaper by booking direct and flying easyjet)so we were first on the plane and could avoid the riot at the airport when they told passengers that not everyone was getting on the plane - they could only taken enough for the crew to cope with. Cheapscate Paul even said we'd be having speedyboarding if we ever went with easyjet again. We weren't even that bothered when the boy in front of us on the plane started puking.
The stress started (I must have been bad in a past life) when we landed. Two of our bags were fine, then the only one left on the luggage belt was the same make, style and colour as mine (yes MINE - all my stuff!) but was a size smaller and wasn't even full. The airport didn't think it was a problem and were sure it would be returned at some stage. I had forms upon forms to complete, then we eventually made it to the car hire desk, 2 hours later than expected. After a lot of looking though keys and papers we were given an upgrade to our booking. I strongly suspect that was because they'd given away our car as we were so late. We eventually found the hotel, which took longer than expected as a new road had been built since the last time we were here, and finally checked in at around 10.30pm. We hadn't eaten and everywhere was closing so at midnight we found ourselves in Mr Chicken, urgh. I like a nice beefburger and must have been feeling the strain as for a moment I thought Mr Chicken could deliver. M&S Aberdeen Angus it wasn't. It looked very dodgy and I ate the salad and a bit of bread. I think I'd still be attached to the toilet now if I'd had more.
Sunday morning, glorious sun. People were round the pool early. We had to go to the shop as the suncream was in the lost bag. On the bright side, I had my iphone charger and I'd found my Touche Eclat and Jo Malone, and a nightie. We got ready to explore in the sun - me in my jeans, converse and sweatshirt. Luck struck when we found an old vest among Harrison's things so although I looked erm, well like a Brit abroad without the union jack shorts. I at least felt the sun. I had make a list of what was missing and learned to ignore Paul laughing at me. I was all set to go for my nice valentine's meal in my chemise - OK nightie - even though my only footwear was converse sneakers. As we got ready we got a phone call. My bag had been found and delivered to the hotel. Hooray. I don't know who cheered most, me or P and H who had earache from me moaning! We went to a fish restaurant, where a mad woman gave Harrison brandy that he liked and hasn't stopped asking for since. At the hotel he's had a fruit cocktail and I'd had a brandy sour. He'd drunk half of mine before the waiter told us he'd got the glasses mixed up!
The day ended well, and I was able to moisturise and sleep better!

Roadrunner!
Wow. My feeling when I got back from my first run outside totally changed when I realised how good my new running app (RunKeeper) is.
I am working today, but have worked an incredible number of hours this week so I can forget about the job next week. I couldn't get on the computer system to do what I needed to do, so I decided to have a quick try outdoors. My gym bag was in the office so I got changed behind the door, attached my new armband, put the ipod on shuffle, started RunKeeper and off I went.
I couldn't believe how hard it was (or how unfit I was?). The first trauma is dodging all the dog poo. I went up the lines (a country trail thing that goes along the back of our house) but had to walk after not very far. I then realised that Paul was coming home at lunchtime, and if he walked in and found in the hall a pile of the clothes I was wearing when he left, along with bra, his first thought probably wouldn't be "Jude must have gone for a run". I need to get a running playlist - when Blue Spanish Eyes came on the ipod it didn't make me go faster but did make me smile. I did walk more than I did at the gym. The cold got me in my throat, which I'll have to get used to. However, it was only a first effort and next week I'll have no choice but to take to the road.
I got home, and the app is just wonderful. It told me I had done 1.46kms in 12.56 minutes. Considering how much I walked, I must do the running bit faster on the road than on the treadmill. The average minutes per km was 8.52. It told me my pace, and the speed I went during each minute I was out. I feel a bit of a fraud though - even I could have managed more. If I'd have known how excited I would be at this app I'd have done more (I might have to go out later). Now for the better bit. I then logged in the RunKeeper website, and not only does it give you the same information as the iphone app, it shows you the exact route you have been! I can't use the app when I'm away as I believe if you go on 3G you can expect a phone bill bigger than the holiday cost, but it will give me something to look forward to when I come home (sad, I know!). This is a great way to spy on people.
If the computer system is still down I might tidy my office then pack.
I'll update if I find free wifi, but it isn't as much fun without the figures.

All work, play to follow
It's been a shocking week so far. I'm off all next week, and there is a deadline to meet at work that seemed difficult even if I didn't have weekends off. I've been setting my alarm extra early and working until extra late, and I'm beginning to see daylight. If I work late tonight, with just 1 more very early get-up, I think I'll manage.
I did go to the gym yesterday. I didn't manage 10 minutes running (very nearly) but did 1.1km before I started fast walking. I'd done almost 20 minutes when the machine came to a dead stop, which nearly broke my legs. I'd accidentally pulled the emergency stop cord when I got my water. I lost interest after that and did a bit more walking. As the machine couldn't give me any data I can't put it on here either.
I did intend to go today as I am a prisoner in my own house tomorrow. I decided finishing work was perhaps more important. My new thing to put on my arm, so I can carry my iphone, complete with running app to show how far I've been (I don't know the actual name for it - arm holster maybe?)arrived so I may possibly try it out tomorrow, but I need to have my wits about me, hence me probably being housebound.
Get well soon to John, who had his toe amputated yesterday. It sounds sore. I'm kindly lending him Pudding the cat to give him cuddles while he recovers.
Tea break over, back to the grindstone.
BUT first, I've got over the £200 mark for sponsors!

End of week 4
I got away very lightly from last night. We decided against the champagne and didn't really drink too much wine either. Inbelievably, we didn't empty the last bottle - there is a glass left! The food was scrummy and Priscilla as good as ever.
I wasn't bad at all this morning and decided I was able to go into the gym while Harrison was at Fit Kids. I started on the treadmill then realised I wasn't quite as full of energy as I thought. After 5 minutes (0.48km!) I'd had enough. I did 6kms on the bike then had a long shower. A poor effort but better than nothing. I'm not sure what I'll fit in for the rest of the week. I have 2 tele-conferences tomorrow with only an hour inbetween, so if it isn't raining I may even go on a proper road. I'm at a meeting all day Tuesday too. I have an app for running to see how far I've gone but I need to get one of those things to attach my phone to my arm then I can use it. I can feel a little shopping trip coming on.
So, here are this week's results:
Running/walking 8.87kms (75 minutes)
Cycling 6kms (17 minutes).

Priscilla here we come
These long days at work are a killer. I signed off before 7pm last night though as I had lots to do. Tonight is Priscilla Queen of the Desert night. Debbie has been to where the ping pong scene was filmed (a woman of many talents) and is eager to see it on screen (the movie, not whatever she did there). Andrew is over from Switzerland so tonight is our perfect opportunity for good food, friends, fizz and films.
All the curries are made and just need warming up later. I have to say they are smelling pretty good. We have a corn curry (with dry roasted peanuts), aubergine and chickpea curry, butternut squash with red pepper and orange curry, and a chicken one that has loads of chillies in it. The champagne is in the fridge, that we are having with hibiscus flowers, courtesy of Debbie's trip. I have also saved the fine wine John gave me for Christmas. Paul has been tidying up, as he's better at that than me.
Only one thing is missing. I ordered the DVD last Sunday. The very boring work book I ordered with it arrived on Friday, but the DVD still hasn't come, so Priscilla night without the main act. This needed quick thinking. I sent a text out to see if anyone nearby had it, and got negative replies. I then got a phone call from a neighbour to say he had it, but he was phoning from Lanzarote (where it is 25 degrees and lager is £1.30 a pint in happy hour). We have great neighbours, and he told me exactly where in the house it was, still in the cellophane, and where I could get the key and alarm code! Since then another copy has come to light so I won't be doing any house-breaking today.
I'm up to £157 in sponsorship now, so thanks to everyone. 99 days today..... I did my Sunday training today just in case I'm a bit slower than normal (if that is possible)tomorrow. Todays' challenge was to run for as much of 15 minutes as possible. My body didn't like that challenge. However, as the end target is to complete 10kms in as close to 90 minutes as possible I don't think I'll worry too much. I did 30 minutes and managed 3.59kms, just slightly more than in the 30 minutes I did last Sunday. I'm pleased I'm going in the right direction. I came out of the gym to glorious sunshine. If I hadn't forgotten my hairbrush (so I looked a sight) I'd have sat outside with half a shandy, watching the world, and the cars going along the M66, go by.
I've been called on to do my bit (bathroom cleaning, the joy).

Sore legs
It's ages since I've woken up aching, so my body must have acknowledged yesterday's efforts.
Today has been non-stop. Work - meeting - gym - just time to nip and get some Euros yippee - collect Nadine - deliver to appointment - bring N home - work phew. I'm just having some food then back to work for another few hours. Even I was impressed with my time management.
To get to my gym you have to walk across the car park, up loads of steps, through the hotel reception, down a load of steps, then down a corridor. My legs had had enough by the time I reached the changing room. I ran for 10 minutes only (1.40kms) and there was no way I could have done any more. Still, I had done what 'the plan' told me to do. When I got back to the changing room there were still people getting ready that had started before I went to run! These must have been the people who put full make up on before getting sweaty. I consoled myself with the fact that by following exactly what the plan said I then had time to get some holiday money. OK it is back to work for me. Bring on the Pro Plus.

The pain barrier
Yesterdays intended training went out of the window. Paul tried to go to work but turned up at home a couple of hours later as the motorway was gridlock and he couldn't get anywhere. We ended up going out for lunch - a very health Toby Carvery though. It tasted a lot better than it looked, but it puts me off a bit sitting among all the people with no teeth in.
Today was so much better though! I did my first 10 minute non-stop run. I know it doesn't sound much but it wasn't half hard. It is true that if you just keep pushing yourself you can do a bit more though. I was a bit red in the face after and gasping so much I think the gym had the emergency services on standby. I kept on the treadmill and did 30 minutes altogether, with another 2 runs of about 4 minutes each. I was surprised that after all this I'd only covered 3.4kms - very very slightly more than Sunday. I did have to have a big rest by walking slow after each run though! I came out feeling very chuft with myself.
Half way through I was rudely interupted by Channel M who were doing a live broadcast. I was horrified. I don't believe in doing my hair before I go to the gym as it will get done when I have a shower afterwards. I was therefore panting, flushed to say the least, very 'glowy' and my hair was everywhere. As if I was going to get filmed like that! I'm sure they managed to find someone to go on camera as a lot of ladies (and gents) of leisure seemed to be around. They obviously didn't have what it takes to be first choice.
The rest of the week might get jiggled around a bit. I'm passing the gym tomorrow so it makes sense to go in. I also anticipate being a bit slower than normal on Sunday morning, so I might bring forward the big run day to Saturday then I can just have a bit of a swim/sauna if necessary on Sunday.
I'd better get back to work or I definately won't get my job! A new tv career might be the answer :)
