End of week 16

3 weeks to go....

This week has been an odd week, and unfortunately something had to lapse. The only possible thing was the training. I have gone to the gym every Sunday morning more or less for the last 14 months, but not today. I decided to have a lie in instead. I'll try to persuade my car to drive into the carpark tomorrow when I'm passing though - I don't intend letting you all down.

The London Marathon was inspiring this morning! That isn't half a long way, and people were doing it wearing all sorts of things. I mean, 26.2 miles carrying a fridge on your back?? I'll be giving that a miss. I wonder if I could dig out my in-line skates?

The only bit of good news is that sponsorship is at £332 (excluding gift aid). If you include the Cake Break proceeds it all comes to £387.

End of week 15

The time is really getting on now - quite a scary thought.

I have had a stressful week with lots of anger to get rid of, so I've run a lot more than normal (every cloud etc etc). I've been starting work early and finishing late as I've had lots to fit in during the week. Jude's Chauffeur Service has really taken off. I was almost buying a cap, but decided to buy N a bus pass instead. She can now get a bus anywhere in Greater Manchester, and at any time too. It didn't take her long to realise she could use it to get back home as well though.

By Thursday I'd had enough, so I had a semi day off on Friday. I did a bit early and late, but nothing between 8.20am and 4.30pm! I did my chauffeur duties, then went to the gym. On Monday I had run 5kms and was feeling very pleased with myself. On Wednesday I sat in the carpark for ages trying to find an excuse not to go in. I went in eventually but only did 3kms. I was aiming for 4 miles on Friday, which is about 6.44kms. I've been exhausted this week and I wasn't hopeful. However, I had my headphones and proceeded to watch mindless television as I ran. I did have a little bit of walking in between the running, but I had to carry on because I needed to know the lie detector results on Jeremy Kyle! I haven't seen that for yonks, and it did me good because I realised I wasn't as disfunctional as I'd started to think. The lie detectors however said that everyone was telling the truth so there were no serious fights. By the time I could turn off I'd clocked up 8.1kms! Impressed?

After the gym I went to the Trafford Centre on a mission. On Thursday I'd been waiting for a snog from David Miliband (his facial skin is soooo smooth, he is either really about 12 years old or shaves every couple of hours) when I was rudely insulted. Someone thought I was Harriet Harman! I was very offended, especially when I googled her and found out she was 59 years old. She does look well though. Later that evening I watched the Great Debate. I was horrified that both Nick Clegg and David Cameron had no wrinkles and lines, yet both are older than me. Debbie pointed out that it must be botox, and my quick research (what did we do before iPhones were invented?) and found it is £220+ and it lasts about 4 months. I decided against it and got some good polyfilla and foundation from the Trafford Centre instead.

From the Trafford Centre it was straight to Debbie's (via Tesco) and out to lunch. It was while we were waiting for our food that my Blackberry bleeped to tell me my massage was in 30 minutes, at 2.30pm. It was quite a surprise as I thought it was at 3.30pm. Kath rescued me and phoned to say I was stuck in a meeting, and I got it changed to 4.30! What a tiring day - gym, Trafford Centre, Tesco, lunch, and then massage. It wasn't until I got home that I realised my Blackberry was wrong and the massage had been at 3.30pm afterall.

I was domestic on Saturday and tidied up. Then, wait for it, I actually attended (I'd say hosted but I just sat down and didn't really look after anyone) my BBQ! My first one of the year - as I didn't manage to get to mine last weekend.

And so to Sunday. H and I went to our normal Sunday morning gym session. Again, I really didn't want to go and contemplated sitting in the cafe with my book while H was at FitKids. I went in though, and just about managed 3.5kms. I watched Coronation Street while I ran, something I stopped watching over 10 years ago. I recognised Ken Barlow and Steve McDonald, but everyone else was a mystery. In the 30 minutes I watched it for though I think I manage to catch up on the plots. When we got back we decided to go to Hebden Bridge. We had a lovely afternoon, and a chippy dinner.

I'm a day late with writing again, and I'm hoping for a better week. Less stress please. Here goes:

End of week 15
Running (with a tiny bit of walking) 19.6kms! Wow!

New milestone

5 kilometres! All running, slow but non-stop, no walking, no resting. Just over 1 more km and I'll be at the 4 miles that Bupa wanted from me (and I thought they had no chance).
Things certainly aren't back to normal but there haven't been any further disasters. If the week keeps on like this I'm going to go for 4 miles on Friday. I am a changed person today. I'm very calm and very focussed, and have decided that red wine is good medicine!
My certificate from the MS Society has come to show that I did send off the £55 I raised by having a 'Cake Break' at work. There were cakes but I did a lunch too so there would be more encouragement. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Sponsors are currently at £312. The total raised is therefore £357 (plus giftaid). I'm hoping to make it up to £400 in total (with sponsors and Cake Break), so for facebookers, click on:

End of week 14

First of all, last week I said I'd done no running. Well of course, if you were paying attention you would realise I did go out one day! OK, not good enough but better than nothing.

This week hasn't been good in more ways than one (well, they are all connected.....

As far as training goes, I did some today for the first time since a week last Tuesday. It really has been a bad time. However, I went to the gym and did 4kms WITHOUT STOPPING. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. Run slow, keep going for longer! I could walk faster than I ran but that isn't the point. I could have gone for longer too, but I stopped at 4 so I'd have time for a shower before I got Harrison from FitKids. I didn't know what would be waiting for me at home so I decided whatever it was I'd like to be clean.

I've been very dirty (steady) these past couple of days. I've had to get the latex gloves on and disinfect N's room for her. She said she had a sore throat on Wednesday and still had it on Thursday. I didn't take much notice as I hear it a lot, but this time we ended up in A&E where she got admitted for the infection and put on intravenous antibiotics and steroids. She saw the National Health Service at it's best, and had a private room with en-suite, television etc, and seemd to quite enjoy it.

She was discharged yesterday afternoon and must have been missing it because we ended up back in A&E by teatime. I find doing this blog quite therapeutic and I'm a bit miffed that I can't really rant about it all. As I was at the hospital I missed the second BBQ of the year - I'd missed the first the night before for similar reasons. I'm very glad everyone else had a good time at my BBQ in my garden though and managed such a chuckle later on at night (about 11pm) when I finally got to sit down outside taking the mind of my hunger with the cocktail Paul kindly made me.

I got a bit of respite at the hospital last night though when I popped into the waiting room and found Ms Aspery there with her head injury. Sorry that it cheered me up so much Debbie (I'm still laughing, now I know you are OK) and I won't write any more about that either!

The run is 5 weeks today, and I'm supposed to be able to do 4 miles non stop running by next Sunday. That is 6 point something kilometres, and it could be possible. If (I know it is a big 'if') this week is disaster free I'll be able to train and hopefully be close to that target.

And so...
Week 14, 4kms, about 38 minutes (come on, remember I couldn't get around the block 14 weeks ago!)

End of week 13 - a day late

Well, the week started off very well but then I've not done any running since! I did have good intentions and took my kit away with me, but it stayed in the boot. I treated myself to Skechers Shape-ups though, and I'm nearly a size 8 already...

Last Wednesday we went down to Portsmouth. I went to a funeral while P and H went around the historic dockyard, taking in The Victory, The Discovery, and The Mary Rose. From the little I saw of Portsmouth it looked lovely, and the Chinese we had was very nice! On Thursday we went to Stonehenge. The road running next to it is a nightmare as everything slows down to see it (hardly surprising). I have to admit, I was a little under-awed by it, until I paid the money and went closer. I totally changed my mind - it was fabulous. From there we went to Avebury so see the stone circle there. That was a gorgeous village. We went to the National Trust cafe for lunch, and P was horrified to find himself in the only vegetarian NT restaurant. H and I enjoyed our lunch while P had a bag of crisps.

From Avebury we went to Bath which I loved. I'd got a great deal at The Hilton, thinking that as we were only there for 24 hours maximum we'd stay somewhere nice and central. We got an upgrade on the room, overlooking Pulteney Bridge. The shops were superb but I was very restrained. The restaurant we chose had Mojita as the cocktail of the week, so I was happy! We went to The Roman Baths on Friday, which again was great. Considering we went for a funeral we had a brilliant 48 hours away and I think Val would have been impressed by how much we crammed in - I was.

Unfortunately things took a downwards turn when we got home - nothing I'm putting in writing but my hair has more grey in it and I have consumed far too much red wine! These things are sent to try us!

Yesterday we set off for a walk and noticed the flag was up on top of Peel Tower at Holcombe Hill. H has never been up to the top so we did that (the flag means that the tower is open and you can climb to the top). I was surprised. I had to hang onto the walls at the top as it was quite scary. As we hadn't eaten quite enough over the previous few days we thought we'd better go to Bella Italia (see photo - not the chain one, our local one) for tea.

And so the week ended, no running but I did walk miles.

There is some brilliant news though - I now have £302 sponsorship!!!
